Fastag – how will it work?

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has formulated the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program, through which the electronic toll requirements can be met. Its main pillar is Fastag. It works with radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology. Through this technology, the user can make toll payments from the moving vehicle. There will be a deduction from the prepaid and savings account linked to Fastag. This Fastag tag will be installed on the windshield of the vehicle and the toll payment will be made as soon as it passes through the toll plaza that supports NETC.

NPCI said on its website that Fastag will not only provide cashless payment services to the user but will also reduce time and fuel consumption since the user will not have to stop at the toll plaza throughout this system.

How and where can Fastag be taken?

The government of India will implement FASTAG from December 1. Many large auto companies that buy new vehicles already receive the Fastag. The government has partnered with 23 banks in the country to provide fastags to older vehicle users. It can be purchased at many other banks, including the State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank. It can also be purchased at Amazon.
